Today I struggled with something that plagues any dreamer, dream recall.
It happens sometimes, you are having a very involved dream, a lot of things are going on in the dream, important things, conversations, interactions and all kinds of dream things.
Then a great big BANG! or the sound of voices in another room come crashing into your dream space causing you to be rudely awoken and as quick as that, the dream is gone!
Here is what I think is the best strategy for dreamers who are just starting out.
Make a commitment to be more mindful of your dreams when waking.
That’s it!
Choosing to focus on this one spot in the dream flow may increase your cognitive chances of recalling a dream more often than not, in turn increasing the potential number of dreams you remember over time. All because one day you decided to pay attention in such a focused mindful way.
Why I think this is the best strategy, is because it is the simplest.
Other strategies you might invent to avoid a failed dream recall, may actually end up being counter productive, impractical and come with potentially negative and unforeseen consequences.
We can not and should not lock ourselves away in lab type conditions to try have the perfect dreams - we have lives to live, not just beds to sleep in.
In a world we are suppose to be moving through from day to day. Is it not better to integrate our dreams into the real life and find the optimum way to do so. I believe so, because our Dreams are for life.
Our lives filled with dreams, have deep purpose and dreams have a key roll to play, because our dreams make our lives deeper, richer and at times even calmer in the storm - we are better to live with dreams as they come into our life as we go.
In that sense your dreams really begin when you being to wake up.
If you lose a dream, perhaps another chance to go back into that dream will present itself and despite the feeling and tangible sense of something lost, try not to be angry with yourself or think you are failing at dreaming and that you might never remember a dream or get angry with those closest to you, whom may have woken you up with an almighty and thunderous start to the day.
No matter how good or important that dream seemed, there may be times when dreams are not to be remembered, and that is ok.
If I was asked to find some value or message from today’s dream recall fail, then it might be the realisation that, those who have the power to yank me right out of the dream state in an instant, are what I need to pay attention to the most right now - those nearest and dearest to me in life.
If you found this short reflection on the pitfalls of dream recall useful, consider sharing or subscribing as a way to help you or others focus from time to time and build up your confidence so you can understand and discover the messages contained within your dreams.
